From player to coach

How one long standing player moved into coaching after injury ended her playing career.

After a serious knee injury ended her playing career earlier than she would have liked, Jodie was reluctant to leave the club altogether. A conversation with a coach at a training session led her towards a coaching qualification instead.

She now runs one of the junior sections alongside her main job, balancing weekday evenings and weekend matches with support from a small team of assistant coaches. She says coaching has given her a different and in some ways more rewarding, connection to the club.

Jodie's story is a common one at the club, where several current coaches and committee members started out as players before injury, family commitments or simply age moved them into a different role.

What our customers say

My son has been coming to junior training since he was six and the coaches know every single kid by name. It is exactly the kind of club you want your children involved with.

Walking football got me out of the house twice a week after my operation and I have made proper mates through it, not just training partners.

I only joined as a social member for the bar but I end up helping at every home match now. It is a proper community club, not just a football team.
