The under 12s' first season in the main league

How a newly formed junior team found its feet in a competitive league.

Two seasons ago the club did not have enough players to field an under 12s side. This year, after a recruitment push at local schools and a steady increase in numbers at training, the team played its first full season in the main junior league.

Results were mixed, as expected for a squad with several players new to competitive football, but the coaching team focused on development rather than the table, rotating positions and giving every player regular game time across the season.

By the final few matches the improvement was obvious, with the team picking up wins against sides who had beaten them comfortably earlier in the year. Several players have already said they want to try out for representative selection next season.

My son has been coming to junior training since he was six and the coaches know every single kid by name. It is exactly the kind of club you want your children involved with.

Walking football got me out of the house twice a week after my operation and I have made proper mates through it, not just training partners.

I only joined as a social member for the bar but I end up helping at every home match now. It is a proper community club, not just a football team.
