Answers to the questions we are asked most often by parents and pupils.
Are your teachers DBS checked?
Yes. Every teacher who works with children is DBS checked and our safeguarding policy covers lesson supervision and how any concerns are handled.
What age can my child start lessons?
It depends on the instrument, though most children can start piano, guitar or singing from around six or seven. Get in touch and we will suggest a suitable starting point.
Do we need to own an instrument before starting?
For guitar most pupils start on whatever they already have at home. For piano a keyboard is usually fine to begin with and we can advise on what to buy once lessons are underway.
Can lessons happen at home rather than the studio?
Yes, many of our teachers offer home visits across the surrounding area as well as lessons in our Totnes studio.
Do you prepare pupils for grade exams?
We offer both exam focused and purely enjoyment based lessons, so pupils can work towards grades if they want to or simply learn for fun.
How long is a lesson?
Most individual lessons run for thirty minutes, with longer sessions available for older or more advanced pupils.
Do you offer group lessons?
Yes, particularly for guitar and our ensemble sessions, which suit friends or siblings who want to learn together.
