Group and ensemble sessions

Group and ensemble sessions bring together pupils of a similar level to play or sing as part of a small band or ensemble, which builds skills that individual lessons cannot: listening to others, keeping time as a group and performing together.

Groups are formed by instrument and ability rather than age alone, so a mixed age ensemble is common and works well in practice. Sessions usually run in blocks of a term at a time rather than open ended.

Several of our ensembles perform at informal pupil concerts through the year, which gives group members a performance goal to work towards.
