About Example Bed and Breakfast
Example Bed and Breakfast has been welcoming guests to Ashburton since 2014, in a house that's been in the same family for three generations before it became a guesthouse. We wanted somewhere that felt properly looked after rather than run like a hotel, with the kind of attention to detail you only get from a small, family run place.
The house was a family home long before it took its first guest and a lot of that character has stayed through the conversion: creaky floorboards in places, a mix of old and new furniture and rooms that are all slightly different from one another rather than fitted out to a single template.
We do almost everything ourselves, from cooking breakfast to changing the rooms between guests, which means we get to know most people who stay with us rather than handing them off to different staff at each stage of their visit. Quite a few guests have become regulars, booking the same week most years.
Ashburton sits right on the edge of Dartmoor and we chose the house partly for that reason. A lot of our guests are here for walking or cycling, though plenty more are just after a few quiet days away and we try to make the house work for both.
