Walking and the moor
Ashburton sits right on the edge of Dartmoor, so many of our guests are here for walking or cycling. Routes range from an easy hour along the river to a full day out on the open moor and the weather can change quickly so it is worth checking conditions before you set off.
We keep a set of local maps and a folder of walking routes in the guest lounge, built up over years of guests telling us what worked well for them.
The town itself
Ashburton is a small market town with a good number of independent shops, galleries and places to eat, all within easy walking distance of the house. It is the kind of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick visit.
A market runs in the town on a regular basis, selling local produce and crafts and the parish church and surrounding streets are worth a look even if you are not planning to buy anything.
Further afield
For guests wanting a day trip, the coast is within reach in both directions, with towns like Totnes, Dartmouth and Teignmouth all under an hour's drive away and each offering something a little different.
