About Example Country Pub
Example Country Pub has been serving the village of Bovey Tracey and the surrounding area since 2011 under its current management, in a building that's been a pub for a great deal longer than that. We wanted somewhere that felt like a proper local: open fires in winter, a busy beer garden in summer and food worth travelling for.
When we took the pub on it had a loyal but ageing regular crowd and a kitchen that hadn't changed its menu in years. We kept what worked, including the open fires and the quiz night and rebuilt the food offer from the ground up around fresh, seasonal ingredients rather than anything that arrived frozen.
We buy meat, fish and vegetables from suppliers across South Devon wherever the volume and consistency allow it and we've built relationships with a butcher, a fishmonger and a handful of small growers over the years. It costs more than buying everything through a single wholesaler, but the difference shows on the plate.
The pub still functions as a proper local as well as somewhere to eat and we've tried hard to keep that balance rather than turning into a restaurant that happens to have a bar. Regulars still come in just for a pint and we want that to stay true for as long as we're running it.
