A construction firm based in Kingsteignton had a team of site managers who were excellent at the technical side of the job but had received no training in managing people, including handling absence, giving feedback or dealing with a conduct issue on site. Several small problems had escalated further than they needed to as a result.
We ran a series of short, practical training sessions with the site managers, working through real situations they'd faced and building their confidence in having straightforward conversations before issues grew into something bigger. We kept the sessions grounded in construction specific scenarios rather than generic examples that didn't feel relevant.
The site managers now handle most people issues themselves, only escalating matters that genuinely need it, which has freed up the owners' time considerably. Several managers said the training gave them the confidence to have conversations they'd previously been avoiding, which has helped resolve issues before they became serious.
