FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we are asked most often before a booking.

Do we need any previous experience?

No, most of our sessions are designed for complete beginners and instructors adjust the pace to suit the group. Let us know at the time of booking if anyone in your group has more experience.

Is there a minimum age?

Sea kayaking suits most ages when accompanied by an adult, while coasteering is aimed at guests aged ten and over. Moorland navigation days suit teenagers and adults who can manage a full day's walk.

What should we wear?

For kayaking and coasteering, wetsuits and other safety equipment are provided, so swimwear and old trainers under the wetsuit work well. For moorland days, sturdy boots and waterproofs are essential.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We keep a close eye on tides, swell and forecasts and will reschedule rather than run a session in unsuitable conditions. We will always contact you as early as possible if a session needs to move.

How many people can join one session?

Water based sessions are capped at six guests so everyone gets proper attention from an instructor. Larger groups can be split across multiple instructors on the same day.

Is equipment provided?

Yes, all specialist equipment is included, from buoyancy aids and wetsuits to maps and compasses for moorland days. You just need to bring suitable clothing and footwear.

Can we book a private session?

Yes, private sessions can be arranged for individuals, families or small groups who would rather not join a mixed group. Please get in touch to check availability.

How far in advance should we book?

Popular sessions and school holiday dates book up quickly, so we would suggest booking at least a couple of weeks ahead where possible. Larger group and celebration days benefit from even more notice.

What our customers say

★★★★★

None of us had kayaked before and the instructor was patient without being patronising, which made a real difference to my daughter who was nervous at first. We have already booked to go coasteering next time.

Booked the coasteering session for a stag weekend and it was the best part of the whole trip. The instructors clearly knew the coastline well and made sure everyone felt safe without taking any of the fun out of it.

The navigation day was exactly what I needed before a longer walk on the moor later in the year. One to one attention for a full day and I left feeling far more confident with a map and compass.
