Safety

How we manage safety

The training, equipment and decisions that sit behind every session we run.

Qualified instructors

Every session is led by an instructor holding the relevant national qualification for that activity, kept up to date through regular refresher training. We carry the insurance that outdoor activity providers are expected to hold.

Instructors brief every group before entering the water or setting out on the moor, covering the plan for the session and what to do if anyone becomes separated from the group.

Equipment and conditions

All safety equipment, from buoyancy aids to helmets, is checked regularly and replaced when it no longer meets the standard we expect. We keep a close eye on tides, swell and weather forecasts and will reschedule rather than run a session in conditions that are not suitable.

On Dartmoor, instructors carry a map, compass and first aid kit on every session and adjust routes depending on visibility, since conditions on open moorland can change quickly.

Before you arrive

We ask about any relevant medical conditions or concerns during booking so instructors can plan sessions accordingly. Guests are also given clear guidance on suitable clothing and footwear ahead of their session.

If you are ever unsure whether an activity is right for you or your group, our team is happy to talk it through before you book.

What our customers say

★★★★★

None of us had kayaked before and the instructor was patient without being patronising, which made a real difference to my daughter who was nervous at first. We have already booked to go coasteering next time.

Booked the coasteering session for a stag weekend and it was the best part of the whole trip. The instructors clearly knew the coastline well and made sure everyone felt safe without taking any of the fun out of it.

The navigation day was exactly what I needed before a longer walk on the moor later in the year. One to one attention for a full day and I left feeling far more confident with a map and compass.
