This family in Kingsteignton had a large but featureless rear lawn and wanted it split into areas that suited how they actually lived, with space for their children to play, somewhere to sit outside and a small area to grow vegetables.
We designed three linked zones, using a mix of planting and low level changes in surface to divide the space without fencing it off completely. A section of lawn was kept for play, with a patio for seating and raised beds for growing near the back door.
The family have said the garden gets used far more than before, particularly the raised beds, which the children now help look after. The layout was designed with room to adjust as the children get older and their needs change.
