FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Questions we are often asked before a first session. Do get in touch if there is anything else you would like to know.

Do I need a referral to start counselling?

No, you can contact us directly and arrange an appointment without a referral from your GP or anyone else.

How do I know which therapist is right for me?

We have an initial conversation with everyone who contacts us to talk through what you are looking for, so we can suggest the therapist and approach most likely to suit you.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes, what is discussed in sessions is confidential, with a small number of clearly explained exceptions relating to safety. Your therapist will talk you through this in your first session.

How long does counselling usually take?

There is no fixed length. Some clients attend for a handful of sessions to work through a specific issue, others continue for longer and we review this together as we go.

Can I switch therapists if it does not feel right?

Yes, finding the right fit matters more than continuing with a particular therapist. Let us know and we can suggest an alternative within the practice.

Do you offer evening appointments?

Yes, evening appointments are available alongside daytime sessions, to fit around work and other commitments.

What is the difference between individual and couples counselling?

Individual counselling is one to one, focused on your own experience. Couples counselling involves both partners in the room, with the therapist helping to keep the conversation constructive for both people.
