Couples counselling works best when both partners are willing to attend and to look honestly at their own part in the patterns that have built up, rather than treating sessions as a place to prove who is right.
It is not a guarantee that a relationship will be saved and it is not designed to be. What it offers is a structured space to understand what is actually happening between two people, which sometimes leads to repair and sometimes leads to a clearer, calmer ending.
Couples often come to us after trying to work through the same argument alone for months or years. Having a neutral third person in the room tends to change the conversation, even in the first session.
